Enduring Reactions

Sometimes when you are feeling jaded or blasé,

you can revive your sense of wonder by merely saying to yourself:

"Suppose this were the only time. Suppose this sunset. . .,

this moonrise . . ., this symphony . . .,

this buttered toast . . .,

this sleeping child . . .,

this flag against the sky. . . . "

Few things are commonplace in themselves.

It's our reaction to them that grows dull, as we move forward through the years.

- Arthur Gordon -

Certain sensual things have been enjoyable at certain ages: music, books, food. These things have expanded to related styles and more complicated tastes as age moved me forward. Some of these things have lost their charm, but others remain a sweet memory. This page lists rather commonplace things that have never become dull to me. Some call these basics; others call them classics; still others call them favorites. I call them Enduring Reactions.
