Where is the life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

- T.S. Elliot -

Glimpses of Mary Lu's Personal tabloid: Words have tumbled onto pages in snatches all my life for one reason or another. I have listed those that I found survived through the years when I unloaded the boxes in my basement. I dedicate these writings to my family since they represent only scatterings of a life lived, knowledge gained, and information lost. I do not have much of physical permanency to leave my children, but as my favorite speaker, Marion D. Hanks, puts it, "Real successful parents give their children everything money cannot buy." I hope my words will be such.

Parodies:

A Parody is a literary or musical work in which the style of the author is closely imitated for comic effect. 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' has lent itself to parody through the years in my family. Mother, my children, and I have all taken a turn using its rhythm for group entertainment. Some of these may be viewed by clicking the links below in the table below. Additionally, I have used parody in my teaching by contrasting the original version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas", [Standard English] with the sophisticated version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" [Gobblygook English], and with the one I autored in dialect of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" [Slang English]. It has been fun to compare these three types of writing to iullustrate clear composition to my students. Additionally, under the following table, I have included a few parodies not written by family that have been circulated on the email and are fun to read.

'Twas the Year of the Move
(Form Letter - 1976)
Happy Fourth in February
(Form Letter - 1980)
'Twas the Friday Before Christmas
(Marion Branch Party - M. Welch)
'Twas the Day Before Christmas
(Tooele Clinic - V. Benson)
Mungerhead Team
(Bonneville Girl's Basketball Team - Tawnia Welch)
'Twas a Week Before Christmas
(Coltman Christmas Party - M. Welch)

Personal Glimpses Housed in Publications

My employment has led to various publications. Some of my them contain fragmentary descriptions of family members, attitudes, personal growth periods, or influences. A few are based directly on a single person's experience. All writings are of some autobiographical nature in that they are connections with the work that I do, thus, little pieces of my thought or performance in the professional world. Because of this, the publications might be of interest to family members. I have marked with multiple astericks the degree of personal reference reflected in the articles. Unmarked entries have little or no personal references and were usually written for conference presentations and later published. This list is a duplication of the articles under the link titled "Published" which includes the dates and places of publication at the end of the articles. The "Published" link includes, also, a brief history of my earliest publishing experience and my steps into professionalism as an author and lecturer.
