Yesterday I sat a thinkin’
I have really been quite stinkin’
To neglect my friends so bad
Is thoughtless, shameful, and quite sad.
Christmas last year passed me by
Likewise summer seemed to fly,
Good intentions – unrewarded
Family news quite unrecorded.
Appreciated letters on my dresser
Unanswered yet --added pressure!!!
Endless projects sapping time,
Constantly without a dime.
Seems I always need for given’
Me oh my, the way I’m livin’
But as I read your thoughts last year,
One thing has really become clear.
‘Tis not just me with much to do,
'Tis not just me who’s sometimes blue,
Changing times have hit us all,
Middle age is quite a brawl.
Teens in families try your plans
Younger’s who can’t understand.
Aches and pains we’ve never had
Inflation makin’ things look bad
Yes, all these things with which to cope
Yet growing kids still giving hope.
Times flying fast, yet seems so slow
But oh how fun, to watch family grow.
Steve’s 9th grade, now Eagle Scout.
He’s grown 5'8" big and stout.
Tawnia’s 8th -V.P.’s her class--
Steve’s favorite person to harass.
She, too, is tall, 5'6" so far,
Honor roll, basketball star.
Lori 6th - quite a bomb,
One day a lady, the next a Tom.
Crystal 5th , a giggly sort.
Andrew Kindergarten (naturally smart).
The kids like all there is to do
Horse/bike riding – swimming too.
They work a lot helping me,
They call the kitchen the cannery.
Harvey likes his job real well
And guess he’s doing pretty swell . . .
They honored him the “Atta Boy”
Which goes to outstanding “employee”
Steve’s summer job was moving pipe.
Lori reached her goal - to earn a bike.
Crystal finally rides the biggest horse,
Andy tags everyone, of course.
I cook and clean and can and sew,
And take everyone else where they need to go.
I’ve written four skits for the stake and the region.
Organized the mini-classes this season.
On Sunday I lead the choir plenty
Ironically my voice hasn’t improved any.
We haven’t recovered from moving yet
The bathroom’s still torn up; the kitchen’s not set.
No heat in the den - but we’ve rugs on the floors,
The girls have bedrooms - minus the doors.
The pole barn’s l/2 built, the shed now has power.
Both sides of the yard have beautiful flowers.
The car is still running, our health has been good,
I never get finished with the things that I should.
So as you can see, I have a good reason
To send you a cheery great wish this season,
And due to the fact Christmas’s gone by --
Let me be the first to say HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!!!!
