'Twas a week before Christmas in Coltman First Ward

And some terrible thing had struck total discord.

You see, they were planning a nice Christmas party,

But someone who lived there had been very naughty.

The height of the evening year after year

Had always been Santa with his Christmas cheer.

This year was just awful, the plan had been zapped-

For word came to Coltman--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!

How could such a thing in so nice a place happen?

The word spread like fire--all mouths were a flappen'.

The worst part of all was--where could he be?

And how could we find him and let him be free?

The party's tonight, and the girls and the boys

Are very excited to ask for their toys.

They always are eager to sit in his lap.

        Oh dear and alas--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!

Well, the activity chairman and his trusty aide

        Remembered a wizard (highly underpaid!).

So off to that wizard the pair they did fly

With hopes of success and a watchful eye.

They knocked at his door, their hearts were a beatin'.

They hardly could wait for this last minute meetin'.

"Oh please, oh great wizard, we need you indeed.

The star of our party needs found and made free!"

Now the wife in her kerchief, the wizard in his hat,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When all of the clatter upon his door

Made wizard alarmed. He jumped to the floor.

"What is all this noise?" "Why my door do you tap?"

"Oh wizard please help us!--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!"

"Humph," said the wizard, "that does seem a problem.

No wonder you're breathless, your hearts all a throbbin'.

But who in the world would such a thing do?

The members in your ward are such a good crew.

But since you desire the answer to learn,

I'll tune in on my special power to discern."

He said not a word but went straight to his work.

He put on his glasses then turned with a jerk,

And with that he looked in his big magic sack.

He searched for the reason--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!

His face then turned pale; his eyes they did glow--

And his cheeks, lips, and neck went as white as the snow.

His forehead all crinkled, his dimples looked scary.

His expression displayed something not merry.,

With a terrible frown, he gave a low whistle,

And we wondered if he'd stuck his hand on a thistle.

"Well wizard, what is it?" we anxiously asked.

The wizard just stood there, intent on his task..

Then slowly and firmly, he gave a reply.

"There's more to this story than meets the eye.

What you want to know, you must learn from his friends.

So seek them out quickly before this day ends.

Santa's disappeared for a very good reason.

It's something to do with his treatment last season.

So if you sincerely want him to come back

You need to discover why--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!

But as instructed they searched for a clue

With Santa's best friends--old and new.

They started with Blitzen up high on the roof,

(They'd heard him a dancing with each little hoof)

The activity chairman and his trusty aid

Were a little confused and totally dismayed,

But as they approached him and asked what he knew,

His only reply was, "It's something you do."

"It's something you do to Santa each season."

Now how could that be any kind of a reason?

        Well, quite blank, we proceeded to open a map;

To guide in our search for why--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!

Next we found Rudolf playing with Nester.

By now this whole matter's beginning to fester.

"Can you two please tell us a way we can try

To help us unravel this mystery tonight?"

Tis really no mystery--they're eyes glowed with love.

You'd not like it either--to be pushed and shoved.

And with that they turned to join other reindeer.

Rudolf helped Nester to carry his ear.

Then they spied the Grinch--talking to Prancer.

"Yes that's it!" they declared. "The Grinch is the answer!

A thief who'd steal Christmas must be a real rat.

I bet it was he who made--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!"

"Help!" said the Grinch, "You're hurting my arm!

Since I learned true Christmas, I've done no one harm.

The answer you seek--well' I'm just afeared

Santa's got tired of kids pulling his beard."

"Hum", the deer told us frankly, "it's something we do.

Let's compile what we have. We may have a clue."

Pulling his beard, a push and a shove.

These things don't show a whole lot of love.

But how could the things we've put on our rack

Add up to the fact that--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED?

The moon on the crest of the new fallen snow,

gave a luster of' mid-day to objects below.

When what to our wandering eyes should appear

But Frosty and Crystal full of good cheer.

"We heard you want Santa," they said with a smile.

"We've heard you've been hunting for quite a long while.

When children get eager, they crowd on him so.

They bump him and mash him and step on his toe.

Some get so close--he hardly can breath!

Some just grab candy and hurry and leave.

So you can see that Santa's quite sad

Cuz he's always treated a little bit bad.

This time he's tried closing up tightly the treats in his sack,

        Then letting you think--SANTA'S KIDNAPPED!"

Oh dear! Oh my goodness! We are in a stew.

The party's begun--what can we do?

If Santa's just hiding, we must find a way

To get him to want to be with us today.

"Let's ask the wizard" one of them said.

"He's wise and all knowing-- a really good head".

So off they all trotted, the wizard to see.

"He'd know what to do!" They all did agree.

The wizard just nodded a knowing, warm smile,

And told all the friends to just rest for awhile.

'Tis really no secret when someone feels bad

To make them feel great instead of so sad.

Just treat Santa the way you want to be treated.

You friends could help kids remember to stay seated.

And if you do this, things will turn out alright.

So Merry Christmas to you and to all a good night!"

And with that the wizard shut tight his door.

The friends all positioned themselves on the floor.

They brought in a chair for Santa to use.

Then waited a short spell for a sign of good news.

And then as they listened a tinkle they heard.

"It does sound like sleigh bells," they spread the word.

And sure enough on that very night

SANTA CAME OUT OF HIDING--TO EACH ONE'S DELIGHT!
