'Twas Friday before Christmas -- high up on a a perch, A wee creature stirred looking in at the church. Some members had treimmed up the chapel with care, In hopes that some people soon would be there. The children all eager were hurrying mom and dad -- The chapel to reach, and their treats tob be had. The Elders with white shirts, and suit pants and ties -- were just finishing their dishes before all arrived. Then at the front door there arose such a clatter, They sprang from the sink to see what was the matter. Away to the window they flew like a flash And pulled back the curtain to see what made the crash. The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow Gave a luster of midday to ojbects below. When what to their wondering eyes should appear But moms, dads, and kids and babies so dear. With a little old man who on the snow seemed to pranch They knew in a moment it's the President of the branch. More rapid than Eagles the kids thundered in And whistled and shouted 'til Prez's face got all grim Now Steve, now Allen, now Robbie, and mike Your're not here to go on a twenty mile hike. Settle down Tawnia, and Lori and Jerry and Crystal Please Johnny, you Corkey - - don't be such a pistal Come out of the kitchen. Come out of the hall. Come out of the scout room. Sit down by the wall. We welcome you out. Let's begin with a prayer, So hurry you-all, and please find your chair. And then in a twinkling, all followed his will Eyes closed, heads bowed low, 'ven the churchmouse was still. A few mumbeled words, directed above And the room took on glow with a feelng of love. The President was dressed in his neatest attire, And his manner was mellow tho' he had plenty of fire Once councilor he had who could not make the scene, But the other was there, looking real keen Both Presidents were smilling going out of ther way To make sure each member had a nice time that day. Their eyes how they twinkled, their dimples how merry Their cheeks were like roses, their noses like a cherry. Their droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow And the sideburns were sprinkled with something like snow They both had round faces and round little bellies That shook when they laughed like a bowl full of jelly. They were chubby and plump -- a right jolly old pair, And I laughed as I watched them ciruclate there. One winked one eye and the twist of a head, Soom gave me to know I should hear what he said. The other spoke lots and no job did he shirk. He shook hands and welcomed enjoying his work. The party went smoothly -- games, refreshments and all. Getting acquainted was really a ball. The primary kids were proud of their eats And thanked all the others who helped with the treats. And finally the hour was getting so late They started the clean up, the one thing we hate. Then laying a finger aside of his nose, 'Twas time for the prayer, the appointed arose. Then theY put on their coats as slick as a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard them exclaim as they faded from sight -- "Happy Christmas to all and to all -- SEE YOU SUNDAY!"
