‘Twas the day of the tournament, and all through the school--

The basketball girls were acting real cool.

The coach in his sweater, his wife with her pen,

Were all packed for travel expecting to win.

When down in the hallway, there arose such a clatter,

They raced from their places to see what was the matter.

When what to their wondering eyes should appear,

But a Mungerhead Giant with one extra ear.

His head was all pinkish--a hat like a crown.

His eyes black and starshape--his dress, like a clown.

Most curious of all was that up on his back

He had a huge stocking called "Mungerhead Pack."

He did not seem rushed and was willing to tarry,

For the students were eager to view what he carried.

"Out in Mungerland," he started to say,

"This big ear tells me ‘tis a very special day."

"Sometimes I hear things . . .," he started to chuckle.

Then laughed loud and long; his knees almost buckled.

He then got real serious. "I've come up with some things.

I want to be helpful to the ‘Mungerland Team'."

I've brought dizzy pills, for that new foul line look.

I'm donating them to a Miss JoAnn Cook."

"A permanent milkshake for Miss Tawnia Kay,

So never again can coach take it away."

"A supper club card for Brizzee to hold.

He makes good his promises, or so I've been told."

"I have for Miss Howard a full-proof thief stopper,

So Pam never again can steal her big Whopper."

"For the Minico Game a basket of tape--

For Melanie, Pam, Traci, and ALL bodies that ache."

"For Chantell, Audrey, Donna--a shoe ten inches tall

For ZoAnn--elbow guards to help her protect her ball."

"For Laura in huddles a special-say look

To give all the teammates that P.M.A. look."

"For coach, I have blinders to cover his eyes

When some of the girls forget he's a guy."

There's no doubt in my mind, you're the best ever's been,

So with these special things, you're sure bound to win."

And with that the giant--he covered his ear,

And as he flew off said, "Have a Good Year."
